Rapid assessment of the abuse of child labor on the streets of Serbia

Rapid assessment of the abuse of child labor on the streets of Serbia is part of a project that has been implemented in the period 2019-2023 by the International Labor Organization office in Serbia, with the support of the United States Department of Labor, under the title “Measurement, awareness-raising and policy engagement to accelerate action against child labor and forced labor”.

As part of the project, SeConS Development Initiative Group conducted a qualitative research to determine and describe the prevalence of the abuse of child labor on the streets, the profile of children engaged in these forms of work, work characteristics and working conditions, risks and dangers associated with the engagement of children on the streets, characteristics of the socio-economic environment in which such work takes place, as well as institutional capacities for prevention or remediation of the consequences of this phenomenon. The findings of the research should serve to increase knowledge about the phenomenon of child labor on the streets and, through given recommendations, create a basis for the development of new, effective policies and institutional responses in relation to this social phenomenon.
