Green economy is an alternative vision of growth and development, aspiring to improve human welfare and social equality, while mitigating environmental at the same time. Moving to a new, efficient and environmentally neutral green economy is not easy and requires well planned activities and the participation of all key actors.
The first step in this process was a comprehensive analysis of the current status of green economy in selected municipalities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bijeljina, Brčko, Tuzla), Croatia (Vukovar, Osijek, Ilok), Montenegro (Kolašin, Plužine) and Serbia (Pančevo, Golubac, Majdanpek), regarding the following areas:
Sector for transport and opportunities for going green,
Waste management (treatment and disposal of waste, air pollution and wastewater treatment),
Energy efficiency, including estimates for energy efficiency in building development programs
Heating systems and opportunities for going green
The industrial sector and the impact of industry on green economy
The tourism sector.
Information collected was presented in draft reports for each municipality, and final reports were then produced for each of the countries involved. In addition to illustrating the current situation in researched areas, critical issues for green economic development for selected municipalities were identified and recommendations were given for resolving them.
