Research on Social Inclusion of Older People in Serbia

SeConS is carried out research on social inclusion of the elderly in Serbia, with a special focus on risks of social exclusion. This research was conducted within a three-year regional project „Taking Action on Social Inclusion of Older People (TASIOP)“, which aimed to indicate the biggest problems older people in Serbia encounter. Civil society organisation networks from five countries took part in the project. Red Cross of Serbia coordinated the project, which was funded by the European Union, Austrian Development Agency, and Austrian Red Cross.

Main goals of this research were to:

• Identify the data which served as a basis for formulating arguments for public advocacy and for specific advocacy activities;

• Provide recommendations for changing those public policies in Serbia, which in some way influence the risk of social exclusion of older people.

The research on social inclusion of older people in Serbia and the risks of social exclusion was comprise from combination of the quantitative and qualitative approach. Report was made based on the acquired results. The report contain key data, research findings, as well as recommendations for enhancing existing and developing new programmes or similar interventions directed at providing support to older people. Additionally, acquired data was employed for formulating arguments for public advocacy, with the goal to make an impact on those public policies in Serbia, which in some way influence the risk of social exclusion of older people.
